Pirate Activity Increases Across DOIA Space

18:12 16-2-0

A report released this afternoon by the Delta Omega Iota Alliance's Policing Division has revealed that piracy is on the increase in nearly every region under DOIA control. In many regions it has increase by over 50% over last year's figures, and in some inner regions, such as Cascade it has shown growth of up to 600%.

A recent series of high profile attacks by pirate groups operating from poorly policed space on the borders between DOIA and it's enemy's on large freighter vessels and even military ships have brought the once rare crime of piracy into the spotlight. Many shipping companies operating in the border regions have been forced to hire mercenaries and security forces to protect their shipments from marauding criminals. Several of the largest corporations in the Delta Pact have banded together to demand better protection from the Combined Delta Military. The report estimated that over 70 thousand lives and 16 billion credits were lost to pirates in the last year; causing a small, but noticeable dent in the alliance economy.

The report comes only days after the Canthian Federation Military freighter, Vaskarl, was hijacked by ships from the so-called "Burning Skull" gang. The group of cruisers escorting the Vaskarl were destroyed in the engagement and the freighter has been missing since it broadcast a distress call more than 27 hours ago.

When asked for his response to the threat of piracy, Supreme Commander Ardugrafar, dismissed it as an unfortunate reality of an unstable and war-torn galaxy. In an impromptu press conference outside the Canthian military base on Daskaros, he stated: "We are doing all we can to protect our citizens from any threat against them, but we cannot hope to keep everyone compeltely safe all of the time. Obviously we have greater concerns than a few pirates and we cannot afford to divert our attention to the far greater threats that face us. The "Burning Skulls", however, will not be causing any further trouble in Adea or any other region."

He refused to comment further on how the pirates had been dealt with aside from confirming that their leader, the infamous Gazak Dreadfist, was dead. He also announced that the Vaskarl was believed to have been destroyed by the pirates after her cargo had been removed.

Police commanders across DOIA have reacted to the report with statements pledging to do more to combat piracy.

Razarihm strike deep within the Canthian Safe Zone

Kafhan, Adea 17:52 16.2.0

In a shock attack that has left over three thousand dead and the southern borders in turmoil, the Razarihm have launched a brutal raid on the industrial world of Kafhan. The assault, which began little over an hour ago and, was routed mere minutes ago, took place more than eighteen light years within the Canthian Federation "safe zone", the area of space designated to be completely safe from enemy action.

At 16:46 today, a Razarihm fleet, containing at least seventeen battleships and three siege dreadnoughts appeared in the Asine system, just above the atmosphere of Kafhan. shockingly, it took the three dreadnoughts only thirteen minutes to break through the planetary shield and begin firing on group and aerial installations. Defence forces responded to the attack but were heavily outnumbered and had to withdraw after being pushed back by the battleships. It took 24 minutes for a larger force to assemble and chase the Rihm out of the system, in which time they destroyed approximately 18 square kilometres of factories and crashed four large aerial facilities. The Razarihm lost no ships.

In a statement released by their Press Office, the Canthian Federation Military admitted that the military had been taken by surprise and had not responded to the aggression quickly or strongly enough. They announced that Adea's front line defence state had been elevated to "Critical" and an investigation has begun into how the Razarihm ships broke through front line and secondary sensor nets undetected. The statement finished by apologising for the failure to the people of Kafhan and the loved ones of those killed in the attack.

Extreme weather changes caused by 'Weather Machine'

IIO HQ, Emin, Kawar - 15:06 15.2.0

Top scientists at the IIO have come to believe that the recent extreme weather changes on 5 well populated planets are due to the use of a 'Weather Machine' by the enemy. The claim was made after a chemical test on a seemingly normal meteorite returned abnormal results, results stating that the meteorite contained a number orikyan-made chemicals which are harmful to a planets environment. Skeptics say that the meteorites are just a collection of dust and waste chemicals from large space-fleet battles. Meteor showers were reported on 7 planets in south-eastern Iota Pact territory, whether its the Kankaar or the Razarihms doing, at this stage we do not know.
